CORESafety TV (April 2021): What It Takes to Get Recertified For the CORESafety® Management System

Welcome to the April edition of CORESafety TV — the online video program from the National Mining Association.

Mining companies that employ CORESafety as their safety and health management system can become “certified” after they’ve completed all 20 modules in the program and have been reviewed and approved by an independent third-party consultant.

Three years later, those same companies are required to go through another third-party review in order to become “recertified.”

In February 2021, Kinross Gold U.S.A., Inc. successfully completed its recertification process for the CORESafety management system.

Here’s an inside look at what was involved in achieving that, as shared by Michael Meighen, Director of Corporate Health and Safety at Kinross.

Michael Meighen emphasizes that the recertification process is something he believes is highly important as well as beneficial to Kinross.

The review in February not only confirmed that the mining operation has been doing things the right way for the most part while adhering to CORESafety’s guidelines, but also shined a light where some safety improvements could be warranted.

Finally, in this April 2021 episode, we also take a look at CORESafety’s
Module #12 – Work Procedures and Permits.
